I Just Know I'm Supposed To Do It

If you've been here reading my writing for any general amount of time, then you know how much I love words. I love how words help us express, and I love discovering their roots. Words and their meanings help me bring meaning and clarity to my feelings.

Words help me understand myself better.

And this goes for the words I like and the ones I don't. While I do find there is value and something to learn from/in all words, there are some specific words I've chosen to remove from my vocabulary over the last many years. One particular word being "goals".

This might have you turning your head in confusion, as most everyone I've ever shared this with does. The concept of goals (setting goals, having goals, etc...) is historically considered a very positive, healthy thing. So when I say I don't believe in goals, it tends to stir up some discomfort for others.

The concept of having goals is meant to motivate, keep people on track, ACHIEVE... However, I see goals as limiting. Goals, without a helluva lot of mindfulness and open-mindedness, will lead to attachment. Which in turn leads to suffering via the anxiety one feels along the way, and the feelings of failure that arise when said goal is not met, or even simply when the outcome just turns out differently.

All too often, the positive intention of setting goals backfires.

People become identified with the failure of not meeting them, and/or obsessed with the need to achieve them — all of which are reflections of an unhealthy sense of self and self-worth, as well as a blatant lack of trust in the Universe.

In my experience and in what I've witnessed, being attached to goals allows for zero flexibility (never a good idea) which results in a life that is rigid in its view. This type of life leaves no room for Spirit to come in and weave its magic — or to lead you to something even better.

Rather than setting goals, the formula I choose to live by is to become clear about how I desire to feel. I allow a vision to spring forth from this clarity, and I hold that vision with reverence and excitement, while remaining open to how it will manifest, or exactly what it will look like.

I also listen deeply to what I feel called to create, and I just do it.

Recently, due to the launch of my music project Allow Being, and the release of my first song, I've been asked by multiple people, "What are your goals for your music?" To which my answer goes something like:

"I don't have goals. I have intentions. My intention is for my music to serve as healing medicine for people. Otherwise, whomever is supposed to hear it, or whatever opportunities may or may not arise from it, is in Spirit's hands. I just know I'm supposed to do it."

When creativity wants to move through us, our job is to let it.

Creativity will heal you and set you free. Yes, it will also stir up a lot of discomfort, just like challenging deep beliefs will. Yet, I can promise when you let go of the goals, surrender to Spirit's plan, and make your only job showing up to the work (in all the ways), you will feel very free.

Growth never comes from feeling comfortable. I'm not here to take away your discomfort. I'm here to love you and support your growth.🖤
