Mantra: Trust & Surrender

Ohhh surrender. It's a tough one, isn't it? We hold on and hold on, and resist and try to "figure it out", or even try to stop things from changing altogether. Our fear of the unknown is sometimes so powerful, that we actually keep ourselves in our suffering holding on to what is. Yet, it is our surrender to the process in which we find some of life's most delicious gifts.

The theme of the very first Bhakti Breathwork workshop I ever created was Surrender & Letting Go. We called on the support of Lord Shiva, aka "The Destroyer", to support us in our intention of release.

If you attended one of the Shiva workshops, you may recall offering your written "let go" statement into the Shiva can. :)

It was an incredibly moving experience for people to breathe into the knowing that it is safe to let go. To experience the lifted weight of releasing into the process of life, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. To trust that all is unfolding as it should.

Sometimes – or oftentimes – things in our life need to "unravel" so they may be recreated into something that will serve us better for where we are headed. The tangled, overgrown brush needs to be cleared, so the soil of our Soul may be tilled and prepared for new seeds, new life.

When the metaphorical Fire in your life seems to be destroying everything in it's path, know and trust that it is the energy of Shiva at work. He is fiercely dancing through your life, joyously burning up all that is holding you back, and all it is time to move on from. It is His destruction that makes the space for creation, for new possibilities, for re-birth.

Shiva is universally recognized as the Deity most associated with the path of Yoga. He is known as the God of Wisdom, the Destroyer of Ignorance, and the Bestower of Joy. His name in Sanskrit literally means "The Good One" or "The Auspicious One." Through His powerful clearing, Shiva brings blessings of peace and healing into your life.

Today is the last day of the week-long yearly celebration of Lord Shiva called Mahashivaratri. It is a time when we honor and celebrate Shiva, offering our devotion, and deep gratitude for His conquering of the "enemies" – for his protecting us from the "poisons" of life.

The Mantra Om Namah Shivaya calls to the Divine inner wisdom of the Self in the form of Lord Shiva. Meditating on this Mantra aligns you with the inner Fire of your Soul, engaging and increasing a powerful vibratory frequency that can move swiftly through your body and your life, creating rapid transformation and expansion. This Sanskrit Mantra translates as:

I bow to Shiva, the Supreme Reality, the inner Self, the Consciousness that dwells in All.

Here is a general breakdown of this translation:

Om: The Divine Word and primordial origin of Sound
Namah: I bow in adoration, respect, homage
Shivaya: Shiva, the inner Self, perfection, auspiciousness

Sanskrit: ॐ नमः शिवाय

This Mantra is also known as the Saranagati Mantra. Saranagati literally translates as ”surrender”. We surrender to the Lord. Thus, this Mantra signifies ”We surrender to the order of the law of the Lord – the Universal law of Karma and the Universal law of Dharma.”

Lord Shiva is the Divine Healer. His essence burns away the subtle seeds of karma that bring about physical, emotional, or psychological suffering, awakening a restorative healing force within us to bring longevity, vitality, well-being, and peace.
